BENEFITING TEXAS HEALTH
ARLINGTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL'S
CARDIAC CARE UNIT
was developed in 2003 by family and friends. Mr. Braziel passed away quite unexpectedly on March 19, 2002, of a sudden and massive heart attack. It is our desire to honor not only him, but also the Cardiac staff at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, Arlington, TX, whose efforts to save him were unequaled.

Jim Braziel was a devoted husband, father and friend. During his life, he was a vital part of his community. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran, having received the Purple Heart. He was a Master Mason, an Elk, an avid golfer and a fervent traveler. About a year after Jim died, a family friend, Ward Coman, approached Jim’s son-in-law, Jason Pickett, with the idea of holding a golf tournament to honor Jim and those who tried to save his life. In order to include those who did not play golf but wished to participate, a cookout, raffle drawing and silent auction held at the Braziel residence was added.
The proceeds of over $5,000.00 from our first three years was donated to the American Heart Association. In 2006, the focus changed to benefit the Cardiac Care Unit at Arlington Memorial Hospital. That year the event raised $3,900. In 2007, it increased to $5,300. It was at this time we determined the Cardiac Rehab Unit needed our help even more. In 2008, the 6th Annual event raised $8,855.00 for them and $9,265 in 2009. In 2010 we broke the $10,000.00 mark and hope to do even better this year. We truly feel rehabilitation after a heart procedure can save even more lives.
